Brian Kelly discovered tattooing when he was a child. On the back of the school bus, he learned from a kid who had flunked down from the grade above, that all you needed was a needle and some ink. The other kid had a cross on his forearm, so Brian went home and gave himself one too
After and during a couple of art degrees, Brian began tattooing in 2002. He had a hands off sort of apprenticeship, where he didn’t listen very well, and may not have been shown very much. The studio also closed down not long after he began. Through trial and error, and the help of some friends, he learned the craft of tattooing as he traveled from the USA to and around Europe.
He creates tattoos and tattoo flash in what he terms “New Traditional”, but will make all tattoos as long they meet his criteria of what will function as a tattoo. Brian Kelly has lived in Berlin for the last decade and can be found working at the Rose of No Man’s Land in beautiful Neuköln.
